South Sudan Secedes
The impending secession of South Sudan and the impact on the people of particular disputed areas, and indeed the international community.
First heard about Sudanese secession as a work-in-progress here.
Ross Carne left the British diplomatic service after some severe disillusionment with the system he had given himself to so willingly.
He entered / started the world of freelance diplomacy not long after. This piece of history has been to some degree a very high profile project.
The comparison between what he and Erik Prince has gone on to do is striking. I learned of Carne Ross at about the same time I heard of Erik Prince, who will not be getting his own Ted Talk slot to talk about the freelance army he is setting up in the gulf.
